The earlier breast cancer is found the better the chances of beating it - so it's important to be breast aware and make regular checks. Breakthrough Breast Cancer's simple, yet effective, Touch. Look. Check. message helps women understand how to be breast aware.

The situation

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK.

It accounts for nearly 1 in 3 of all cancers in women and nearly 46,000 women are diagnosed each year in the UK.

Most cases of breast cancer are found by women noticing unusual changes, taking the initiative and visiting their doctor. This is why it's important to be breast aware.

What you can do

Being breast aware simply means being on the lookout for any unusual changes and getting them checked out by your doctor. Lumps are vital to look out for - but there can be other important signs too.

As part of our ongoing partnership with Breakthrough Breast Cancer, we're highlighting the need for breast awareness with Breakthrough's simple, easy to remember message: Touch. Look. Check.

It's as simple as TLC...

TOUCH your breasts. Can you feel anything unusual?
LOOK for changes. Is there any change in shape or texture?
CHECK anything unusual with your doctor.

No one knows your body better than you and everyone will have their own way of touching and looking for changes - there's no special technique and you don't need any training.
