In January 2008, we joined forces with Oxfam to launch the M&S and Oxfam Clothes Exchange, designed to raise money for Oxfam's work and to reduce the one million tonnes of clothing sent to landfill each year in the UK.

The way it works is simple: you take the M&S clothes you no longer wear into your local Oxfam shop, and they give you a voucher worth £5, to use next time you spend £35 or more on clothing, home or beauty in one of our stores. We recently teamed up with our partner 'Closed Loop Recycling' to help offices in certain parts of the country set up their own recycling scheme for our Food to Go packaging, 91% of which can be recycled. Look out for the closed loop recycling symbol on packaging - this shows you that the pack is suitable to go in one of the scheme's bins. To read more about the scheme, click here.

As you know, packaging can be made from lots of different materials - plastic, cardboard, foil, tin - so it has to be recycled in different ways.

Generally speaking, your local council is the place to start with any queries about recycling. They'll have details of what items they collect for recycling, and where the local recycling facilities are. Click here to go to the Government's recycling website, where you can enter your postcode to see what facilities are available in your area.
