We have put together 6 useful tips that will help you get the most out of the food you buy.
Do you go shopping without a list? Many of us do, but research shows that making a list may help us waste less food and buy exactly what we need. Families are wasting as much as £600 on food bought and thrown away each year - could careful planning help?
Before you go to the shops, there are some easy things you can do.
First, check your fridge and cupboards and see what you have. Then think about what meals you will be cooking over the next few days.
Second, stock up on a good mix of tinned, dried and frozen food, which you can use to spice up your meals, and which keep for much longer. Frozen vegetables, meat and fish are a good idea. Pasta, rice, grains last a long time, while dried fruit and nuts are also long lasting and healthy. Combining these sorts of staples with fresh food can give you so much more flexibility.
Lastly, try buying fruit and salad in smaller amounts more frequently.
