We took the decision to stop selling cage and barn-produced eggs as part of our ongoing commitment to animal welfare. In 2002, we took that commitment one stage further by deciding to use only free range eggs in absolutely all our food, from the egg mayo filling in our sandwiches to the glaze on our sausage rolls.
For more than 10 years now (since September 1997), M&S has only sold fresh free range eggs.

All the free range egg we use as an ingredient comes from known, independently audited suppliers and meets the BEIC Lion Code, or its equivalent.
Our fresh free range eggs are produced for us on specially selected farms in the UK and come from hens fed a non-GM, cereal-based diet. They too meet the BEIC Lion Code and our own strict criteria.
Our leading policy on 100% free range eggs has been recognised by the RSPCA and Compassion In World Farming (CIWF), who’ve awarded us their respective Golden Egg and Good Egg Awards.
So, whether you're dunking your soldiers at breakfast time, or tucking into a golden, pastry-topped pie at dinner time, you can guarantee the M&S egg you’re eating is free range. What a liberating thought.
