On October 9th 2008 we were three times winners at the RSPCA Good Business Awards, which recognise companies in the cosmetics, fashion and food industries for innovation and excellence in animal welfare.

For the fourth year running, we won the Best Large Retailer Award for our animal welfare-friendly fashion policies.  We were recognised for our policy against the use of animal fur, our commitment to ethical sourcing and our product traceability.

M&S also took the prize for the Cosmetics Award for Ongoing Commitment to Change.  We were congratulated for our visionary thinking.

We also won the Best Supermarket title and were praised for our commitment to strong welfare credentials in porcessed pork products like Parma ham.  Dr Geoff Spriegel, one of the food category judges, said; ''M&S is a fantastic example to other large supermarket chains of how animal welfare is now a topic that necessitates even closer links between farmers and retailers.''

Mike Barry, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at M&S, said: ''It's been a great team effort, with everyone working hard to deliver great products that also respect animal welfare.''
