
Cod is probably the UK's best known and most popular white fish (particularly battered and served with chips!). It's easy to recognise, with a browny green body with a pale, curved lateral line. Though cod usually mature at 4-5 years, they have been known to live to the age of 60. The species prefers cold waters and can be found in depths up to 600m.
Cod has a mild, clean flavour and its texture is flaky and tender. It’s quick and easy to cook: enjoy it grilled, baked, poached, fried or battered with chips.
Over 85% of our cod is MSC-certified or in MSC full assessment process. Improvement projects are in place for the remaining cod to improve the sustainability of these fisheries.
