Love lingerie, love the environment
The Carbon Trust has calculated and independently certified the footprint of the Autograph Leaves lingerie collection. The calculation takes into account each item’s complete life cycle – from the components manufacture to transport and even energy that will be used for machine-washing and drying.
Local farmers involved in the tree planting scheme
The lingerie collection has been made in partnership with manufacturer MAS Intimates at an eco-model factory in Thurulie, Sri Lanka. The innovative renewable energy features and reduced waste initiatives introduced at this site have helped reduce the carbon emissions by 33 percent, compared to typical factory production.

To offset remaining carbon emissions from the production of the new lingerie range, M&S is working with the International Rainforest Trust and the Conservation Carbon Company, in Sri Lanka, to invest in local rainforest replanting projects.
- Sri Lanka’s forests are home to approximately 90 percent of the country’s species, but are disappearing at a rate of 1.6 percent annually. To counter this 75% of the trees planted are native species, creating more natural habitats and enabling wildlife to move more easily between the two forests.
- Working in partnership with nine local farmers M&S is planting over 6,000 trees on the desolate land between Kanneliya and Polgahakanda forest reserves - creating pathways for native creatures such as the purple-faced langur monkey and the Ceylon rose butterfly.
- The project will also help to improve the livelihoods of farmers involved - the remaining 25 percent of the trees planted like mango and lime trees will generate income for farmers and their families.
