Start is an exciting initiative by the The Prince's Charities Foundation to help us lead sustainable lives - and M&S is proud to be an official partner. Start is all about showing us what a more energy-efficient, cleaner and healthier future could look like, and how we can get there by taking small - or big - steps that have a positive impact on the environment. Whether you start composting kitchen waste or recycling your clothes, it all makes a difference. For practical advice on taking the important first steps, visit http://www.startuk.org/.
Start fits perfectly with M&S's eco and ethical plan which aims to see M&S become the world's most sustainable major retailer by 2015.
Two of our major aims are to stop sending any waste to landfill and to make it easier for customers to recycle more where they can. The Oxfam Clothes exchange scheme - where you can take the M&S clothes you no longer wear to Oxfam and receive a £5 voucher in return* - was introduced in January 2008. So far over 5.5 million items have been donated and the scheme has raised over £3 million for Oxfam.
